Domaine du Cellier aux Moines | Brand Announcement
Domaine du Cellier aux Moines and the Pascal family appoint MISA Imports as their U.S. importer
Domaine du Cellier aux Moines and its namesake Clos were established nine centuries ago by Cistercian monks in a manner similar to Clos Vougeot. It was acquired by the Pascal family in 2004. The Pascals undertook an all-encompassing, 10-year renovation of this almost forgotten historical landmark. Philippe Pascal is a veteran of both the wine and luxury industries. After 10 years as head of Sopexa in the U.S., he joined Seagram as CEO of Barton & Guestier and of Mumm & Perrier Jouet, before joining the LVMH Group where he served for 19 years as CEO of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, of Moët Hennessy and then of the LVMH Watch & Jewelry Division. He retired from LVMH in 2012 to dedicate more time to his family wine estate with his wife Catherine.
Today, Domaine du Cellier aux Moines covers 10 hectares of mostly Premier Crus located in the best terroirs of Givry, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay and Montagny. In 2015, the estate made the transition to organic and biodynamic practices. In the same year, they also built a 4-floor, gravity-powered underground cellar, a first in Burgundy and another step to becoming fully sustainable. “We are excited to partner with MISA Imports and their Craig Baker Selection. As the three-tier system is being
challenged, MISA Imports has demonstrated its efficiency to the benefit of retailers, restaurants and consumers. We share their entrepreneurial spirit and family values. Sam Assaad, MISA’s founder, Craig Baker and their team have a unique expertise and a real passion for distributing craft wines,” says Philippe Pascal.
MISA Imports is a global wine and spirits importer and distributor headquartered in Dallas, Texas. MISA was founded by Sam Assaad in 1998 and was a pioneer of the wine industry with its transparent model, innovative solutions, and sourcing capabilities. MISA’s foundation is the Grands Crus Classés of Bordeaux, but MISA also has a beautiful portfolio of other fine wines. Through its extensive US network and 5 US locations, MISA strives to disrupt the industry with its best practices whilst keeping to its family business values: honesty, integrity, and respect. A Craig Baker Selection wine signifies that it has been personally sourced from small family estates by Craig. These are artisanal wines that represent outstanding quality and authenticity. Craig has been working with small family estates since 1991, first as a buyer for a large retail chain in Virginia. He then moved to the importing side where he worked for Frederick Wildman & Sons and, most importantly, Robert Kacher Selections for 18 years, before joining MISA in 2015.
“The wines of Domaine du Cellier aux Moines are all world class and display complexity, depth and elegance on par with anyone’s favorite domaines within the given appellation and cru. Specifically, the Givry Premier Cru Clos du Cellier aux Moines, in my opinion, is becoming the reference point in Givry, clearly a rising star appellation in red Burgundy,” according to Craig Baker.
